Daddy/Daughter Dance

Our church started a new event this year--an intergenerational father/daughter dance.  Anna was excited about going with her daddy!

The invitation
Ready to go!

They had a great time!  The report I was given was so cute.  Will said that they did a toast at the end of the night with sparkling grape juice.  After it was over, Anna asked, "Where is the toast?".  Bless her heart, she really thought they would get toast at the end!!  Everyone got a kick out of her comment.  Evidently, they danced their hearts out because this was what walked in the door at the end of the night...

Sleepy sweet girl!

Back to Mimi and Papa's

Will had a conference out in Arizona that he and Ed needed to attend, so I packed the kids up (and Murphy, too) and we headed to Wilmington for a long weekend at Mimi and Papa's.  It had been a while since it was just us at home.  We had a blast!

On Thursday, it was gorgeous (72 degrees in January!),
so of course we headed to the beach!
Anna and Penelope playing in the waves.
Beach bum!
Jack helping to feed the birds.
A tractor at the beach!!  And yes, it was warm enough for no shirt!
Look what we missed that night!
It was only a dusting of snow, but we missed our new home's first snow.
Thanks, Mary, for getting a picture for us!

On Saturday, we left the kids to have a tea party with Papa...
...and Mom and I walked the loop!
Jack riding the horsey in his new winter hat.
Fun with Mimi on the "fire truck".
We love us some Mimi and Papa!

He sleeps with her and decided one morning that
she needed to eat oatmeal for breakfast, too.

New Neighbors, New Traditions

We have loved our new home and over the holidays, have gotten to know our new neighbors a little better.  Luckily, all four of the other families have kids and a dog, so we fit the criteria!;)  Across the street from us is a sweet family with three kids ranging in age from 11 down to 8.  They have been so amazingly welcoming to us, from offering their swingset to the kids when we were over checking out the building progress to bringing us an amazing goodie bag when we first moved in to helping us out whenever we have needed it.  They have been awesome!  The mom, Mary, reminds me so much of my sister and my mom squished into one, so we have gotten along really well.  Anna and their middle child, Emily, hit it off from the start and have become best buds.  Initially, I was a little nervous about the age difference (she's 9), but now that we know them better, I know she comes from a good family with similar values and she is so sweet to Anna.  It's kind of neat because Emily gets to be the "older sister" (she only has a younger brother) and Anna gets to be the "little sister", which is a different experience for both of them.  Anna has been so cute with her new friend and the whole "going over to play" thing.  It was so strange for me in the beginning because Emily would come over and ask if she could play and then off she would go and it would be just me and Jack at the house.  Weird!  My little girl is getting so big!  You should have seen her the first time I let her go over to ask Emily to come play--she thought she was hot stuff!
Back before Christmas, Mary had informed us that one of the neighborhood traditions is to have a Christmas tree-burning party down by the pond after New Years.  One of the perks of our new neighborhood is that it has a 19-acre common area with a pond, fishing dock, picnic shelter, and fire pit.  The first Saturday of the year was gorgeous, so we all headed to the pond to celebrate the burning of the trees!

After Mr. Chris hauled his 14-ft tree down to the pond,
he brought his tractor by for Jack to get a ride.
Jack was a little timid about going with Mr. Chris,
but he was happy to go with Daddy!

We roasted hot dogs and made s'mores over the burning Christmas tree!
So fun!!  Here are Jack and Anna with the infamous Emily.

Happy New Year!

We celebrated the new year on the 1st with a trip to El Maguey with Sarah, Jason, Caroline, Greg, and Michelle.  After we ate, we spent half an hour outside the restaurant letting the kids run up and down the sidewalk and play "Ring Rosy".  Unfortunately, the fun was cut short by a face-plant by Jack and a nice goose egg on the forehead.  A new bruise for a new year!

Collins Family Christmas

My dad (aka Papa) is on call at work over Christmas every seven years, so this was his last and final Christmas call since he's retiring before his turn comes around again.  Woohoo!  So instead of getting together right after Christmas in Winston-Salem like we've done the past few years, we all waited until the weekend after Christmas and headed to Wilmington and had our crazy Collins Christmas at "home".  There were 15 people and four dogs packed into Mom and Dad's house, but we had the best time.  Here is the weekend in photos, not necessarily in chronological order because there were too many to sort through (beware!!).  Thanks to my sister, Sarah, for being an awesome photographer over those few days and letting me steal pictures!!

One of the first things Anna noticed that weekend...
..."Papa has on the same sweatshirt five years later!"
